In Genesis 15, God tells Abram that his many descendants will end up being slaves for 400 years. God then tells Abram that He will judge the nation enslaving them and lead the Israelites to the Promised Land. When Exodus 1 opens, the Israelites are slaves in Egypt. In Exodus 3, God tells Moses that He is going to free the Israelites, and He plans to use Moses to do it! When Jesus deals with the Jews in John 8, they tell Him that they have never been slaves to anyone. Jesus informs them that anyone that sins is a slave to sin. Mankind has had a need for freedom since the Fall in the Garden. Just as God offered physical freedom to the Israelites, Jesus offers spiritual and eternal freedom to anyone that will come to Him. Today on “In Need of a Refill,” Kevin Smith looks at Genesis 5, Exodus 1, and John 8 to talk about the Israelites’ and mankind’s “Need for Freedom.”
