The Decision for Freedom

Moses and Aaron had been dealing with the Pharaoh through 9 plagues attempting to convince him to let the Israelites go. Pharaoh had temporary, varying degrees of willingness to allow the Israelites to go worship and sacrifice to the LORD in the desert. Moses finally goes to Pharaoh and tells him that God was going to go into the midst of Egypt at midnight and kill the firstborn child of all the families in Egypt from the Pharaoh’s house to the slave girl’s house. The Israelites would be able to escape this judgment by putting the blood of an unblemished lamb on their doorposts. Unlike the other 9 plagues, the 10th plague allowed the Israelites the choice to believe God and choose life by doing as God had commanded. Just like observing the Passover allowed the Israelites to live and be freed from slavery, being covered with Jesus’ blood in baptism allows people to live eternally with God and be freed from the slavery of sin. Today on “In Need of a Refill,” Kevin Smith looks at Exodus 11, Exodus 12, Romans 6, Galatians 3, Ephesians 2, Colossians 2, and Colossians 3 to talk about “The Decision for Freedom.”
