The Forgiving God

The culture has it wrong. The God of the Old Testament is the same as the God of the New Testament. The God of the Old Testament was not merely looking for a reason to smite someone. He continually offered forgiveness and mercy if people would come to Him. David begs for God’s forgiveness based on His lovingkindness after his sin with Bathsheba. As Jesus is in the process of being crucified, He cries, “Father forgive them.” Peter tells the people on Pentecost that they killed the Messiah but God raised Him from the dead. The people are terrified and ask, “Men and brethren what shall we do?” Peter then tells them that forgiveness is on the table. “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” Today on “In Need of a Refill,” Kevin Smith looks at Exodus 4, Exodus 32, Psalm 51, Luke 23, and Acts 2 to talk about “The Forgiving God.”
