In Genesis 24, Abraham tells his servant not to take his son back to Haran if the woman selected to marry Isaac was unwilling to leave home. Isaac and Rebekah have chosen to play favorites with their children. As a result of their favoritism, their family begins to unravel. After Esau’s plot to kill Jacob comes to light, Isaac and Rebekah send Jacob to live with Laban until Esau cools off. In Genesis 28, Isaac charges Jacob not to take a wife from the Canaanites but to select a wife from the daughters of Laban. Today on “In Need of a Refill,” Kevin Smith looks at the decisions, actions, and events that took place in Genesis 28 that left Isaac and Rebekah’s “Family Divided.” Kevin also looks at 1 John 3 and 1 John 4 to discuss the fact that the same attitudes of love and hate that divided Isaac and Rebekah’s family still exist today.
